About Me

Hi, my name is Louie Nathaniel Pinpin (Louie). I'm currently a postbaccalaureate research scholar in Dr. Yousuf Khan's lab at Stanford University. I received my Bachelor of Science, major in Cell Biology and minor in Asian American Studies, at the University of California, Davis. Prior to transferring, I studied at Mission College, a community college in Santa Clara, CA, where I obtained my Associate in Science and Associate in Arts, major in Biological Sciences and Liberal Arts: Natural Sciences and Mathematics, respectively.
My first exposure to basic science research was when I joined Dr. Megan Dennis's human genetics and genomics lab. Soon after, I became interested in pursuing a PhD, though I wanted to gain more full-time experience and mentorship. This led me to apply to postbaccalaureate research programs, and I accepted a role as a postbaccalaureate research scholar at Stanford University as part of Stanford Medicine Health Equity Education (HEE)'s Postbaccalaureate Experience in Research Program (formerly Stanford REACH Initiative). During the program's one-year duration, I joined the lab of Dr. William Goodyer. On October 2025, I joined Dr. Yousuf Khan's lab in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology.

I am interested in becoming a professor in the future. As a product of mentorship, I hope to continue the chain of mentorship by opening doors to research to students of underrepresented populations. Thus far, I have actively participated in science lab outreaches and leadership. My goal is to continue contributing to such programs during graduate school and beyond.

I am originally from Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines, and I proudly identify as a Kapampangan and Filipino. I moved to the United States when I was nine years old. I was the first in my family to graduate college in the United States and will be the first to pursue a PhD. Outside of science, I like to explore the world around me through food and culture. A personal goal of mine is to visit all 50 states of the United States and all 82 provinces of the Philippines along with a few bucket-list countries.

About this Website
I originally intended this website to talk about my research experiences. Now, my goal is to talk about my experience in navigating science and academia with the hope that it serves as a resource and as a platform for aspiring first-generation scientists like me.

Life gets busy sometimes but I will update the website with relevant, up-to-date information whenever possible. Last update: September 2025.
